Support Homes at 901 Monroe St NE

For over 10 years, the lot at 901 Monroe St NE in Brookland has sat vacant — even though it’s just steps from the Brookland Metro station, five blocks from a grocery store, and surrounded by local businesses. This prime location could provide much-needed housing in Ward 5, yet it has remained empty due to restrictive zoning and a few loud voices opposing change.
Now, a new Zoning Commission proposal would finally allow 901 Monroe to move forward, bringing 230 new homes — studios, one-, two-, and three-bedrooms — to Brookland. This project would add a mix of housing options to a neighborhood dominated by single-family zoning and provide homes for students, families, and neighbors who want to live in a walkable, transit-connected community.
But we need your help. The Brookland ANC will vote May 21st on whether to recommend the project to the Zoning Commission — and the Zoning Commission will decide whether it can move forward.
Click below to Email the Brookland ANC. Tell them:
- You support the 901 Monroe project.
- After nearly 15 years, it’s time to build.
- Share why Brookland needs more housing — your story matters!
- Mention if you live in Brookland or Ward 5.
If you have 2 more minutes, please click below and send your story to the Zoning Commission, asking them to approve the project.
